Artist of the Week:

EMILY PELTON (eats art)

Picture
:)  No. I did not pick Emily Pelton as the first featured artist because we share the same name. (Although, Emily is quite the agnomen!) Her artwork caught my eye; pleasant, refreshing, and surprisingly tasty. Mostly comprised of acrylics, Pelton's portfolio offers paintings of oreos, doughnuts, cakes, hotdogs, waffles, and an ice cream sandwich screaming to be devoured. Oh, and she actually mixes sugar into her paints to create a more realistic texture. Hungry? So is Emily Pelton; on her myspace page she headlines, "I EAT ART".
Not only is Pelton a consumer of acrylics, mixed media, portraits, ceramics, and embroidery, but a fan of good reads. She quotes Chocolat by Joanne Harris-"In my dreams I gorge on chocolates, I roll in chocolates, and their texture is not brittle but soft as flesh, like a thousand little mouths on my body, devouring me in fluttering small bites. To die beneath their tender gluttony is the culmination of every temptation I have known".
Emily Pelton is quite a read herself. Check out her blog and her official website. Interested in purchasing a piece of Pelton? Contact her at [email protected].
